Fresh Hops, Native Plants, and Ivy Pulls: How Ravenna Actually Spends October

What does a neighborhood with no big fall festival do with October? In Ravenna, the answer is written across three small calendars: a brewery on 26th Ave NE, a bookstore on 20th Ave NE, and a volunteer sign-up sheet for the ravine. Put them side by side for October 2026 and they line up like a gardener's to-do list. The harvest comes first, then planting, then clearing ground for next year. After that, the evenings move inside.

That order doesn't seem to be planned by anyone. It still decides which Sunday you'll want free.

The Harvest Comes First: Fresh Hop Fest on October 10

Ravenna Brewing Company at 5408 26th Ave NE hosts its third annual Fresh Hop Fest on Saturday, October 10, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The brewery is pouring 23 guest fresh-hop beers from Cloudburst Brewing, Fort George Brewing, No Boat Brewing, Fast Fashion Brewing, Georgetown Brewing, Varietal Brewing, Single Hill Brewing, Ladd&Lass Brewing, Uprise Brewing and Human People Brewing. Thirteen of its own beers will be on tap next to them.

The food plan is worth knowing ahead of time. Birrieria Pepe El Toro is serving a special brunch-only menu from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., then its regular menu from 2 to 8 p.m. If brunch is the draw, aim for the morning half of the day.

The event page's web address carries a 2025 date, but the listing itself says Saturday, October 10, 2026. Go by the date on the listing.

Two Sundays, One Thread Running From a Taproom to the Ravine

Eight days after the hop fest, the same patio turns into a plant sale. A week after that, the action moves down into Ravenna Park. Those two Sundays are the center of the month.

  1. Sunday, October 18, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Plantas Nativa holds a native-plant pop-up sale at Ravenna Brewing, 5408 26th Ave NE.
  2. Sunday, October 25, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Green Seattle Partnership runs the Ravenna Restoration Romp, a volunteer work party at Ravenna Park, 5520 Ravenna Ave NE.

The work party has a specific job. Volunteers will start around the basketball court and move down the access road to the southeast. They'll pull blackberry and ivy, take out some Golden Chain trees that are crowding the area, build mulch piles, and get the site ready for planting next year. Volunteers register through the Green Seattle Partnership event page.

Taken together, the two dates tell one story. The public ravine and private yards nearby are on the same schedule this month. One Sunday is for buying native plants for your own garden, and the next is for clearing invasive plants out of the park so it can be replanted next year. Through the end of 2026, the Seattle Parks Foundation's Ravenna Park venue calendar lists only this October 25 work party and nothing in November. If you want to help in the ravine this fall, this is the posted chance.

The Friends of Ravenna-Cowen already held their big fall event. Their annual Ravenna Park History Walk ran on Sunday, September 13. Twenty-six people joined FORC members Larry and Lani Johnson for the story of how the park was created, its natural history and how it has changed over the years. The pair also led a shorter walk through the ravine for a group from Merrill Gardens Senior Living on September 25, which rain showers cut short. As of today, the group's online calendar shows no upcoming events. That makes September 13 the month for learning about the ravine and October 25 the month for working in it.

The Brewery's Weeknights Run on a Repeating Grid

Outside those two Sundays, Ravenna Brewing's October follows a set weekly pattern. Food trucks change by day, and the events repeat on the same weeknights.

  • Tuesdays, October 6, 13, 20 and 27: Head in the Clouds Trivia Night, 7 to 9 p.m.
  • Thursdays, October 8 and 22: Magic the Gathering game night, 4:30 to 9 p.m.
  • Sundays, October 4, 11 and 25: Ravenna Run Club, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., then Outsider BBQ from 3 to 7 p.m. Outsider BBQ also runs on October 18.
  • Mondays, October 5, 12, 19 and 26: Lunch on the Plate, 4 to 8 p.m.
  • Fridays, October 9 and 23: Impeckable Chicken, 4 to 8 p.m.

A few one-night events fall between those. On October 5, there's a fall coaster craft night with Seattle Creative Foundry from 6 to 8 p.m. One Night Choir does a Dolly Parton Night on October 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. On Indigenous Peoples' Day, October 12, the taproom opens at noon, and Bar Stories: Live on Stage follows that night from 7 to 9 p.m. Jazz Night is October 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The day after the plant sale, Monday, October 19, Seattle Creative Foundry comes back for a craft night where guests make beaded spider suncatchers, 6 to 8 p.m. On October 25, the same day as the ravine work party, Dog Gone Seattle holds an adoptable-dog meet-and-greet at the brewery from noon to 3 p.m. Since the work party ends at 12:30 p.m., you can do both that Sunday.

Two more indoor options round out the month. Mioposto at 3426 NE 55th St, which Eater reported in January had reopened after several months of repairs, is in Seattle Restaurant Week, running October 18 to 31. Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center at 6535 Ravenna Ave NE holds all-ages Skate Night on the second Thursday of each month, 5:30 to 7 p.m., which falls on October 8 and November 12.

What Isn't on the Calendar Yet

The schedule thins out at the end of the month, and a few things people may expect aren't there.

As of October 4, no 2026 Halloween event has been posted for Ravenna. Ravenna Brewing's October 31 listing shows Good Morning Tacos from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Burger Planet from 3 to 8 p.m., with no Halloween event. The brewery's pet costume contest is dated October 31, 2025, and nothing has been posted for this year. The Halloween Masquerade Haunted Hunt at Ravenna-Eckstein appears only in Seattle Parks' 2025 Halloween roundup. Third Place Books Ravenna has no event listed between October 29 and November 6. Ravenna Brewing's November calendar is still empty. Any of these could be added later. Today they aren't scheduled.

Street work is also still underway. SDOT started construction on its 22nd Ave NE and Ravenna Ave NE improvements in August 2026. Crews trimmed vegetation along the west side of 22nd Ave NE, changed the back-in parking, and added new bike lane markings. The next phase includes a shared-use path, curb ramps, crosswalks, and stop signs at the intersection. Plans also call for an all-way stop at Ravenna Ave NE and NE 54th St and a protected southbound bike lane on 22nd Ave NE between NE 54th St and NE 45th St. The city hasn't set a timeline for that work yet. If you walk to the ravine work party from that direction on October 25, check the SDOT project page first for lane or sidewalk closures.

If the October 18 plant sale has you planning a fall garden refresh, it's a good time to ask how much that work adds to your home's value. Native plantings and a tidier yard are the kind of exterior work Theodora Cornelia Homes weighs when advising Ravenna owners on improvements, and a free home valuation gives you a starting point before you dig in.
